Quickstart
PushBell delivers notifications from your sites and systems to iPhone, Android and your other devices. Every notification type can have its own logo, sound and link.
-
Create an account at app.pushbell.app. Your first project is ready.
-
Install the PushBell app on your phone, sign in with the same account and allow notifications.
-
On your project’s Overview page in the dashboard, create an API key. It is shown only once.
-
Send your first notification:
Terminal window curl -X POST https://api.pushbell.app/v1/messages \-H "Authorization: Bearer pb_live_…" \-H "Content-Type: application/json" \-d '{"title":"New order","message":"An order of $49 just came in"}'The response is
202 Acceptedwith the notification id. It is queued and reaches your devices within seconds. See its status in the dashboard’s Delivery log.
Notification types
Section titled “Notification types”Define a type for each event (sale, signup, server_down…). The type’s logo, sound, title and text template and link are set in the dashboard; in the request you only send the type and its variables:
{ "type": "sale", "vars": { "amount": "$1,250" } }If the type’s title template is {{amount}} sale, the notification arrives as “$1,250 sale”. Fields given in the request replace the type’s settings.
Never rejected
Section titled “Never rejected”Every valid request is queued and delivered; it is never rejected because of load and never lost, even while our servers are down. The API only returns errors for invalid requests (400), invalid keys (401) and accounts without an active plan (402). Send an Idempotency-Key header to make retries safe: a request with the same key within 24 hours is delivered once.
